Quick Card 6 - You're One Cool Cat

Hello again!  This is the final card I made for My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics, again competing in Event 4 Speed Cardmaking.  For this event, we are asked to make a card in 20 minutes or less.  I used the offcuts from Quick Card 1 - I didn't want to waste them!  For my tips on speedy cardmaking, see here.

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - I Knead You (cat), Cool Cat (sentiment)
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - Pierced Rectangle Frames (offcuts from my Quick Card 1), Heart Border Staggered
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versafine Onyx Black
  • Colouring medium: Markers
  • Other:  Staedtler black marker for faux stitching

I set the kitty timer at 20 minutes and had 7.5 minutes left!  This was my quickest card of all!

Quick Card 5 - Thank Mew

Me again with another card for My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics, again competing in Event 4 Speed Cardmaking.  For this event, we are asked to make a card in 20 minutes or less.  I used the offcuts from Quick Card 2 - I didn't want to waste them!  For my tips on speedy crafting, see here.

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - I Knead You (cat, thought bubble, purr), Cool Cat (sentiment)
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - Stitched Circle Frames (offcuts from my Quick Card 2)
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versafine Onyx Black, Versamark
  • Colouring medium: Markers
  • Other:  Ranger White embossing powder, Staedtler black marker for faux stitching

I set the kitty timer at 20 minutes and had 2 minutes left!  I'm not sure why this card took so long, considering I didn't do any die-cutting. I guess it was the faux stitching.

Quick Card 2 - Just Fur You

Hello, again!  As promised I'm back with another card for My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics! I am really enjoying Event 4 Speed Cardmaking, in which we are asked to make a card in 20 minutes or less. As mentioned previously, I am usually a slow crafter so this was quite a challenge. But I loved it - that ticking timer really helped me focus and get the card made!  I made 6 cards, and this is the second one.  I will be sharing the rest of them today!

I shared my tips for speedy cardmaking in the previous post, so please see here if you're interested.

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - Cool Cat (image), I Knead You (sentiment)
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - Stitched Circle Frames
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versamark
  • Colouring medium: Markers
  • Other:  Ranger White embossing powder

This card came together quickly, despite heat-embossing the sentiment.  I stuck to my planned design this time, no waffling!  I set the kitty timer for 20 minutes and had 5.5 minutes left!

Quick Card 1 - Thank Mew

Hello, everyone!  I'm still competing in My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics! I am really enjoying Event 4 Speed Cardmaking, in which we are asked to make a card in 20 minutes or less.  Note that I am a slow crafter by nature so this was definitely a challenge.  However, it was actually freeing, knowing the timer was ticking away and the card had to come together quickly.  I made 6 quick cards and I will be sharing them all today, so stay tuned!

Here are my Tips for Speedy Cardmaking:
  • Plan your card in advance; sketch out a design and decide which stamps and dies will be used
  • Gather the intended stamps and dies and remove from packaging so they are at the ready
  • Clear your work area of all distractions
  • Have a limited colour palette; pull cardstock and colouring medium in those colours only
  • Have other necessary supplies within reach:  ink pads, stamp positioner, paper trimmer, die-cutting machine, adhesive, scissors, etc.
  • Do simple colouring and keep your card design simple
  • Don't worry about cleaning your stamps or clearing scraps from your desk until card is finished (I struggled with this one!)

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - Cool Cat
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - Pierced Rectangle Frames (these were a gift from a crafty friend - thank you, Christina!)
  • Ink:  Memento Tuxedo Black, Versafine Onyx Black
  • Colouring medium: Markers

So how long did it take me to complete this card?  I set the kitty timer for 20 minutes and I had 2.5 minutes left.  I could have finished sooner but I waffled on the placement of the sentiment. In the end I stuck to my original plan. Lesson learned, and I was better prepared for the next quick card!

My First Spinner Card

Hi, everybody! Today I'm sharing another card inspired by My Favorite Things - MFT 2018 Creative Olympics. I'm competing in Event 3 Crafty Biathlon again! For this event, we were to choose a technique and card type from the list provided. I chose Dry Embossing for technique and Spinner for card type.

I was able to accomplish the dry embossing using a die and embossing mat.  To accentuate  the dry embossing, I sponged Distress Ink with an ombre effect.  This is my first spinner card!  I had a few problems but in the end I was able to get it to work. The kitty is suspended with silver thread.  Just turn the kitty in one direction several times and then when the card is opened, it spins!  It's so cute!

Check out the MFT products I used:

  • Stamps: My Favorite Things - I Knead You (cat, sentiment)
  • Dies: My Favorite Things - I Knead You, Heart Border Staggered (for dry embossing), Coffee Cup (smallest heart), Stitched Circle Frames
  • Ink: Distress Ink - Spun Sugar, Picked Raspberry, Memento Tuxedo Black, Versamark
  • Colouring medium: Markers
  • Other: Ranger White embossing powder, Posca white paint marker (dots on box), heart sequins from my stash

My colour combo was inspired by My Favorite Things MFT Colors 87:
